Clinical Approach

My personal approach to therapy is very much dependent on what you, the client, need and want from our sessions. I am trained in a number of evidence-based clinical approaches and will combine different aspects from different approaches in a way that will best support your goals and needs.

My overall style is eclectic which means Iā€™m going to use a variety of modalities in our work together. Some of the modalities I may use in our sessions include:

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR): An approach developed to address trauma and distress that uses bilateral stimulation to help process and desensitize.

Solution-Focused Counselling: Looking at solutions, coping, actions and goals as opposed to sitting in the problem.

Narrative Therapy: Looking at how the narrative of your life has been developed and looking at alternate story lines that you may be overlooking.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): An approach focused on the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviors as a response to challenging or upsetting situations.

Mindfulness Practice: Working towards being in the present rather than following your thoughts to the past or the future.

Therapeutic Arts: Especially useful when clients have difficulties expressing themselves audibly, therapeutic arts will let you express yourself through more creative means like writing, drawing or crafting.

Sand Tray: A non-directive approach for both adults and children where you can express yourself with the assistance of figures, water and a sand tray.

Therapeutic Play: An engaging and interactive method of therapy that lets children (and adults) process conscious and subconscious thoughts and experiences.
